Russia’s environmental watchdog detects 1,500 violations by gold miners in 2024
Fines exceeded 56 mln rubles
MOSCOW, June 6. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage (Rosprirodnadzor) recorded 1,500 violations following inspections of activities by gold mining companies in 2024, with fines for violations exceeding 56 mln rubles ($707,000), the regulator’s press service told TASS.
"In 2024, the activities of gold mining companies at 187 subsoil sites were inspected at the request of the government of the Russian Federation. Rosprirodnadzor’s inspectors detected 1,500 violations as a result of inspections. Fines exceeded 56 mln rubles," the service said.
The inspection materials have been sent to the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use (Rosnedra) for decisions to be made to cancel some licenses for the right to use subsoil resources, the regulator noted, adding that information was in place on 107 decisions.
In particular, mining operations have been prohibited in five subsoil areas, the procedure for early termination of the subsoil use right has been launched on 67 subsoil areas (with a period of 3 to 12 months provided to eliminate violations), and the procedure for revoking the license has been terminated on 35 subsoil areas due to the elimination of violations by subsoil users.
