Waiting for 4% inflation unnecessary to start lowering key rate

The Central Bank needed to make sure that inflation is steadily declining to the target of 4% to make the decision, Elvira Nabiullina stressed

MOSCOW, June 6. /TASS/. It is not necessary to wait until inflation becomes 4% to start reducing the key rate, Central Bank chief Elvira Nabiullina said at the press conference after the Board meeting.

"By the way, we spoke about the lack of necessity to wait until 4% inflation in order to start lowering the rate. In this sense we rely on the future outlook, on forecasts of evolution of the inflation picture and the economic picture in general for the forthcoming period. And we decide on the basis not merely the current situation but also the assessment for the future," she said.
