Hainan's Sanya to implement international model of industrial innovation
The city also actively participates in major events that promote closer ties with other countries
HAIKOU, China, May 9. /TASS/. The city of Sanya on the south coast of China's Hainan province will follow an innovative model of industrial development focused on strengthening international ties, Hainan Daily reported.
The publication cited the Sanya government as saying that its main task is to ensure the establishment of a leading cluster in high-tech areas such as breeding, deep-sea projects, aerospace, modern environmental growth programs and digitalization. All decisions on related issues, as well as their successful implementation, are directly related to the policy of strengthening Hainan Free Trade Port and the overall national strategy.
The city has also been actively participating in major events that help strengthen relations with other countries, such as the China International Consumer Products Expo in Haikou (the administrative center of Hainan). Sanya is constantly implementing programs to find new growth drivers, from seed projects to grow plants from orbiting seeds to intensive duty-free trade.
The foundation for Sanya's modernization and dynamic development of new productive forces has been laid over many generations, the newspaper noted. The construction of large-scale infrastructure facilities has played an important role in the city's development, dramatically accelerating the internationalization of the local economy, including the tourism and transport and logistics sectors.
In connection with the task of creating an international consumer zone on the island, the Sanya authorities are constantly expanding the list of measures to optimize and improve the level of services in accordance with international standards. The Hainan International Film Festival, held annually in December, yacht regattas and golf tournaments play a key role in shaping the image of the city. Combined with the development of modern industries, this is noted to allow for effective use of the great potential of the local economy.
Sanya is a leading Chinese resort city with a population of over 1 million. According to official estimates, its gross product exceeded 100 billion yuan (about $14 billion) in 2024, an increase of 5%. The average annual air temperature in this city reaches 25.4 degrees, and the coastline is about 260 km long. There are 19 bays and about 40 islands suitable for tourism in the adjacent waters, which allows the local government to successfully develop yachting, cruise tourism, beach and family recreation.
