NEW YORK, April 3. /TASS/. Apple products could substantially increase in price after US President Donald Trump imposed trade tariffs on countries where the company's main production facilities are located, The New York Times reported.

As the publication points out, Vietnam, against which Trump imposed a 46% tariff, India (26%) and China (34%) make up 90% of the production of iPhone smartphones. The company will either have to pay these tariffs and lose profits or pass these expenses on to consumers.

Other US technology companies, such as Google and Microsoft, will be less affected by the new trade tariffs, since they are not as reliant on international suppliers. However, economic barriers may raise the cost of building new data centers for the development of artificial intelligence (AI), which they had planned to create outside the United States, the newspaper observed.

Amid news of the tariffs, Apple shares on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange dropped by 7.4% as of 10:24 a.m. Moscow time. (07:24 a.m. GMT)

On April 2, Trump announced that his country would set a minimum customs duty rate on imported goods of 10%. For individual countries, he applied individual tariffs. In addition, the US administration will introduce customs duties of 25% on all imported cars starting April 3.
