Northern Latitudinal Railway may be viewed as hydrocarbon market stabilizes — governor
Oil cargo and gas condensate were the main products for the Northern Latitudinal Railway, Buryatia's Governor Alexey Tsydenov said
MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. The implementation of the project to create the Northern Latitudinal Railway on the Yamal Peninsula is possible after the hydrocarbon market stabilizes, since hydrocarbon raw materials would be the main cargo there, Buryatia's Governor Alexey Tsydenov said in an interview with TASS.
In November 2022, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin announced the Northern Latitudinal Railway was suspended, saying the implementation may resume after the implementation of the Eastern Polygon and the Murmansk Railway hub projects are implemented.
"Oil cargo and gas condensate were the main products for the Northern Latitudinal Railway. Its efficiency depends on sales of these products develops, on production in adjacent fields and on logistics," the governor said. "Besides, the markets are unstable nowadays - the trade in petroleum products and, in general, hydrocarbon raw materials is subject to certain changes and external influences. Therefore, when conditions in these markets stabilize, then the Northern Latitudinal Railway will have other prospects."
The Northern Latitudinal Railway, like other transport and logistics hubs, depends greatly on conditions in foreign markets, for which transport is a supporting infrastructure.
The Northern Latitudinal Railway was supposed to connect the Northern and Sverdlovsk Railways to be an element of a unified Arctic transport system and infrastructures that ensures the development of the Russian Federation Arctic Zone's natural resource potential. Additionally, the project could take part of cargo from the Sverdlovsk Railway and the Trans-Siberian Railway, thereby allowing for shipment of new types of cargo.
