Court fines Google $39,366 for violating law on self-control of social networks
In August 2024, the company was already fined the same amount for a similar violation
MOSCOW, March 7. /TASS/. Moscow's Tagansky District Court has fined Google 3.5 million rubles for a new incident related to the violation of the so-called law on self-control of social networks, the court's press service told TASS.
"The Tagansky District Court of Moscow ruled to find Google LLC guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 2 of Article 13.50 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (failure of the owner of a social network to fulfill the obligation to monitor and (or) take measures to restrict access to information), and imposed an administrative penalty in the form of an administrative fine in the amount of 3.5 million rubles," the press service reported.
In August last year, the company was already fined the same amount for a similar violation.
Since February 2021, Russia has had a law on self-control of social networks, according to which platforms are required to independently identify and block illegal content. In 2023, amendments were adopted to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, according to which social networks face fines of up to 8 million rubles ($89,750) for failure to comply with the requirements of this law.
