Russia may export 2.4-2.5 mln tons of wheat in February 2025 — analytical firm
Russian wheat exports since the start of the agricultural season remain record high despite the decline in January
MOSCOW, February 10. /TASS/. Russian wheat exports dropped by 39.5% year on year to 2.47 mln metric tons in January 2025 and could stand at 2.4-2.5 mln metric tons in February, still lower than in the previous year, Rusagrotrans analytical center reported to TASS.
"Wheat exports in January 2025 (including Eurasian Economic Union member-countries) reached 2.47 mln metric tons (4.08 mln metric tons in January 2024)," the company said. "The projection for wheat exports in February was adjusted upward from 2.2-2.3 mln metric tons to 2.4-2.5 mln metric tons based on information about the increase in ship approaches to Russian ports, which is still significantly lower than in the last year (4.4 mln metric tons)," Rusagrotrans noted.
Russian wheat exports since the start of the agricultural season (from July 1, 2024 - TASS) remain record high despite the decline in January - 32.2 mln metric tons or 0.4 mln metric tons higher than in the corresponding period of the prior season.
Egypt leads the list of importers, which brought in the record high volume of Russian wheat in July 2024-January 2025 – 6.3 mln metric tons, an increase of 1.7 times on an annualized basis. Bangladesh is second with 2.28 mln metric tons.
Exports to Turkey declined amid limitations introduced since the start of the season. "From July to January, exports to Turkey amounted to 2.28 mln metric tons, which is 1.9 times lower than the figures from the last season. This is the record low value over the last eight years, specifically from the season of 2016/2017, when exports there totaled 1.8 mln metric tons," the center informed.
Algeria ranks fourth among importers of Russian wheat, with the increase in purchases from Russia from 1.6 mln metric tons in the last season to 1.69 mln metric tons in the current season. Kenya is the fifth with imports of 1.4 mln metric tons of wheat, compared to 1.06 mln metric tons in the prior season.
