Court fines Telegram $800 for refusal to localize data in Russia

The messenger was earlier fined four million rubles ($40,800) for refusal to delete certain channels with calls to separate the Ural region from Russia

MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. The Judicial District No. 422 of the Tagansky District Court of Moscow has fined Telegram messenger 80,000 rubles ($800) for refusing to honor the obligations on localizing personal data of Russians, the court told TASS.

"The Judicial District No. 422 of the Tagansky District Court of Moscow recognized the Telegram Messenger as liable under Part 8, Article 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (breach of personal data legislation of the Russian Federation) and ruled to set the administrative penalty of eighty thousand rubles," the press service said.

The messenger was fined four million rubles ($40,800) for refusal to delete certain channels with calls to separate the Ural region from Russia.
