Oil companies receive $1.6 bln from Russian budget in January for fuel damper

MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. Payments from the Russian budget to oil companies for the fuel damper in January 2025 amounted to 156.4 bln rubles ($1.6 bln), according the Finance Ministry.

In December 2024, payments amounted to 139.3 bln rubles ($1.42 bln), and in January - 146.6 bln rubles ($1.5 bln).

Oil companies receive a damper if they supply fuel to the Russian market at a price below a certain level - the so-called cutoff point. Throughout September 2023, fuel was traded on the exchange significantly above this level. At the same time, since September, an adjustment of the mechanism has been in effect, which has virtually reduced payments under the fuel damper by 50%.

Since October 2023, the previous method of calculating payments to oil companies under the mechanism has been once again in force in Russia. Against the background of a significant increase in fuel prices, it was decided to return the rate to its original state.
