MOSCOW, December 24. /TASS/. Steel production in Russia in November 2024 decreased by 9.2% year-on-year and amounted to 5.5 mln tons, according to a report by the World Steel Association (WSA).

In January-November 2024, steel production in the country decreased by 7% year-on-year, to 64.9 million tons.

According to the report, in November, China produced 78.4 mln tons, which is up 2.5% year-on-year, India produced 12.4 mln tons (+ 4.5%). Steel production in Japan fell by 3.1%, to 6.9 mln tons, in the USA it decreased by 2.8% and amounted to 6.4 mln tons.

In November, steel production in Russia, Ukraine, and other CIS countries amounted to 6.5 mln tons, which is 7.8% less than a year earlier.

In January-November 2024, these countries produced 77.9 mln tons of steel, which is down 4.1% year-on-year).

In November, countries of Asia and Oceania produced 107.4 million tons, increasing output by 2% year-on-year. The EU countries produced 10.7 million tons of steel, which is 3.9% more than a year earlier.

Steel production by North American countries in November fell by 5.2% year-on-year, to 8.5 million tons. Steel production by South American countries for the reporting period amounted to 3.4 mln tons, which is down 3.4% year-on-year. Middle Eastern countries produced 5.1 mln tons of steel, increasing output by 2.7% year-on-year. Overall, global steel production in November 2024 amounted to 146.8 mln tons, which is 0.8% more than a year earlier, according to the association's report.

The World Steel Association is one of the largest industry associations in the world. Its member companies account for approximately 85% of the world's steel production.
