Sum of fines imposed on Google in three years exceeds $241 mln
Meanwhile, the number of blocked Russian YouTube channels keeps growing, the agency said
MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. The overall sum of fines imposed on Google LLC in the past three years has exceed 25 billion rubles ($241,550,450) and 34.5 billion rubles ($333,341,385) since the beginning of 2021, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) told TASS.
"Due to systematic violations of the law, the overall sum of fines imposed by the court on Google LLC in the past three years has exceeded 25 billion rubles. The sum of fines for the entire period (since 2021) has exceeded 34.5 billion rubles. This measure had no effect as well," the agency said.
Meanwhile, the number of blocked Russian YouTube channels keeps growing, the agency said.
"Starting with Russian media, reporters and public figure, this year, the American company started blocking videos of Russian musicians. And not individual creations, but entire channels, popular among Russian users. Overall, over 200 channels have been blocked, over 80 of them - this year," the agency specified.
On July 10, 2024, the watchdog sent yet another letter to Google CEO demanding to unblock Russian channels.
"No response has been received," the agency concluded.
