Bank of Syria operating as ususal, no threat to accounts, deposits of citizens — regulator
The regulator also added that all financial institutions in the country will continue to provide services to citizens "in a proper manner"
BEIRUT, December 9. /TASS/. The Bank of Syria continues to operate, and there is no threat to the bank accounts and deposits of Syrians, according to a statement published on the regulator's Facebook page (banned in Russia, owned by the Meta corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia).
"The Central Bank continues to operate and will continue to monitor the work of banking and non-banking financial institutions [in the country] in accordance with the rules," the text says. The Central Bank of Syria assured "fellow citizens who deal with all operating banks that their deposits and funds placed [in accounts] in these banks are safe."
The regulator also added that all financial institutions in the country will continue to provide services to citizens "in a proper manner."
On November 27, Syria’s armed opposition launched a large-scale offensive on the positions of government forces in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. By the evening of December 7, President Bashar Assad’s opponents had seized several major cities, including Aleppo, Hama, Daraa, and Homs. On December 8, they entered the Syrian capital, Damascus, while the army withdrew from the city. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali expressed his readiness to peacefully transfer power in the republic. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Assad stepped down and left the country, having given instructions for the peaceful transfer of power.
