International reserves proven to be not very reliable — Putin
The Russian president cited the example of Chinese partners who also invest in deposits and minerals
MOSCOW, December 4. /TASS/. International reserves have proved to be not very reliable, it is better to invest in technology, education and science, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the VTB Forum "Russia Calling!".
"These [international] reserves are generally invested in foreign assets, including foreign securities denominated in foreign currency. It turned out that this is not very reliable. Where should we invest? In education, in science, in the latest technology, in real estate," he said.
Putin cited the example of Chinese partners who also invest in deposits and minerals. "These material assets are more reliable than financial instruments of other countries, especially since, as it turns out, they use these instruments for political purposes. In my opinion, to their own detriment, but that is their choice. Let them do what they want and we will do what is necessary to ensure our interests. I think that investments in technology, education, science, logistics are the most reliable," Putin concluded.
