Brazilian MFA dismisses Trump’s threats of 100% duties on goods from BRICS countries — TV
The future head of the White House would be wise to take the current state of the global economy into account, unnamed Brazilian diplomats believe, according to the publication
BUENOS AIRES, December 2. /TASS/. Brazil’s authorities consider US President-elect Donald Trump’s threats that he will impose 100% customs duties on goods from BRICS countries should the alliance move away from the dollar to be empty, CNN Brasil reported citing sources in the republic’s foreign ministry.
They believe that Trump will not go through with these threats once he takes office, and that anything he says before he is inaugurated cannot be taken seriously. During his first presidential term Trump also threatened China, Mexico and Canada with similar measures, but in the end, he was unable to push them through, the TV channel noted.
The future head of the White House would be wise to take the current state of the global economy into account, unnamed Brazilian diplomats believe, according to the publication. The administration of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is taking these claims with a grain of salt, calling them simply "another provocation," CNN Brasil stressed.
Earlier, Trump also stated that any country that tried to replace the dollar in international trade could "say goodbye" to the US.
