Gazprom has not expressed interest in selling Nord Stream-2 to US investors — Kremlin
Nord Stream 2 does not need to be reconstructed, Dmitry Peskov noted
MOSCOW, November 26. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that he had not heard about Gazprom’s desire to sell Nord Stream-2 to American investors.
"I have not heard that any investors lobbied for auctioning off this facility of critical energy infrastructure. I have not heard that the Russian side, acting through Gazprom, would like to sell it either," he told reporters while commenting on the information that US investor Stephen Lynch had expressed interest in purchasing Nord Stream-2.
"There is also the main factor here: the gas pipeline is a tool, an instrument. And everything depends on reserves, the source of gas. Gazprom is the source of gas," he said. "I am not aware of Gazprom’s wish to hand gas transportation assets over to the US. I have not heard about that; it is probably worth asking the company itself," Peskov said.
Nord Stream 2 does not need to be reconstructed, he noted. "This is a complete pipeline, which could be launched immediately, as President [of Russia Vladimir] Putin has stated. One can only wonder why the leadership of the same Germany is not guided by purely economic interests and the economic viability of its industry, producers, and citizens, and prefers to secure energy resources at a higher price from other sources," the Kremlin spokesman added.
