Gazprom, Moldova plan to continue discussing gas supplies from January 1, Moldova's debt
The company also noted that Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov discussed cooperation in the gas sector at a working meeting
MOSCOW, November 25. /TASS/. Gazprom and Moldova will continue discussing the organization of Russian gas supplies to the country from January 1, 2025, as well as the settlement of Moldovagaz’s debt to the Russian holding.
"The parties agreed to continue discussing options for organizing Russian natural gas supplies to Moldova from January 1, 2025, as well as ways to settle the debt of Moldovagaz to the Gazprom Group," Gazprom said in a statement.
The company also noted that Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov discussed cooperation in the gas sector at a working meeting. "The parties discussed current issues of cooperation in the gas sector," the statement said.
It was reported earlier that the Moldovan energy minister would discuss with Gazprom the possibility of supplying Russian gas to the unrecognized region of Transnistria via alternative routes in the event that transit through Ukraine is cut off.
According to Parlicov, the Moldovan authorities are alarmed by the panic on the gas market due to the uncertainty of its transit from Russia through Ukraine next year. According to him, the government did not expect the price to rise above $500 per 1,000 cubic meters. The minister said that he was invited to St. Petersburg to discuss Russian gas supplies to Transnistria, the approval of the new board of directors of the Russian-Moldovan company Moldovagaz, and the problem of a historical debt of more than $700 mln, which Chisinau refuses to recognize. For his part, the chairman of the board of directors of the Russian-Moldovan gas distribution company Moldovagaz Vadim Cheban believes that the Russian company has every reason to cut off supplies to Moldova after the country's government failed to fulfill previous agreements on debt settlement.
