Russia’s steel production plunged in October — WSA

China produced 81.9 mln metric tons in October, up 2.9% on an annualized basis

MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. Steel production in Russia fell by 15.2% year on year in October 2024 and stood at 5.6 mln metric tons, the World Steel Association (WSA) said.

Steel production in Russia edged down by 6.8% annually to 59.4 mln metric tons in January - October 2024, according to the report by WSA.

China produced 81.9 mln metric tons in October, up 2.9% on an annualized basis. India’s production totaled 12.5 mln metric tons (plus 1.7%). Steel production in Japan lost 7.8% to 6.9 mln metric tons and declined in the US by 2% to 6.6 mln metric tons.

Steel production by Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries stood at 6.7 mln metric tons in this October, having dropped by 12.2% in annual terms. These countries produced 71.4 mln metric tons of steel within ten months of 2024, down 3.8% year on year. Asian and Australasian countries produced 110.3 mln metric tons of steel in October, with a 0.9% uptick. EU countries had the output of 11.3 mln metric tons of steel, up 5.8% annually.
