Lavrov says EU goes through deep crisis as more countries refuse to support US policies
The minister mentioned the import duties that the EU imposed on cheaper and higher-quality electric cars from China, as well as the purchases of low-quality Ukrainian grain to the detriment of its own farmers and consumers
RIO DE JANEIRO, November 19. /TASS/. The EU is currently going through a deep crisis that was caused by blindly following American policies to its own detriment, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference following a Group of 20 summit.
"The EU is going through a deep crisis, in my opinion, including a conceptual one, as more and more capitals do not want to listen to Brussels, where bureaucrats have settled, elected by no one and concerned only with pursuing the policy that the US needs in Europe," he said.
"One of the results is more expensive energy, as energy prices in Europe are three to four times higher than the US rate. This also leads to deindustrialization, with businesses mostly moving to the US," Lavrov went on to say.
The minister mentioned the import duties that the EU imposed on cheaper and higher-quality electric cars from China, as well as the purchases of low-quality Ukrainian grain to the detriment of its own farmers and consumers.
"But higher-ups in the EU do not think so. They think little of their consumers," Lavrov said. "Anyone but the EU could talk about energy and food security while gazing angrily at Russia."
