Long-term treasuries accounted for $22 mln of Russian investments, while short-term treasuries stood at $3 mln

WASHINGTON, November 19. /TASS/. Russia’s investments in US treasury securities increased to $25 mln in September 2024, according to documents published by the US Department of the Treasury.

Long-term treasuries accounted for $22 mln of Russian investments, while short-term treasuries stood at $3 mln.

US Treasuries held by Russia amounted to $24 mln in August (long-term worth $21 mln, short-term worth $3 mln), $24 mln in July, $44 mln in June, $45 mln in May, $46 mln in April, $47 mln in March, $47 mln in February, and $43 mln in January.

Russia started reducing investments in the US sovereign debt in the spring of 2018 as they fell from $96 bln to $48.7 bln in April and to $14.9 bln in May of that year.

In September 2024, Japan was the main holder of US treasury securities ($1.12 trillion), followed by China ($772 bln) and the UK ($764.7 bln).
