Norilsk Nickel aims to enter carbon credit market
The company sees carbon credits, which are generated through climate-related projects, as a rapidly developing field, a kind of "cryptocurrency," Stanislav Seleznev said
MOSCOW, November 15. /TASS/. Norilsk Nickel is looking to trade carbon credits both inside the country and internationally, the Vice President for Environment and Safety of the Russian mining and metals company told TASS.
"We have acquired ten thousand carbon units from RusHydro recently. We want to understand all the benefits of this tool, how to buy, transfer, and account for carbon credits. And, most importantly, how to verify such actions, that is, to confirm that they are entirely legal and transparent. This pertains not only to domestic transactions, we also very much want to figure things out at the international level," Stanislav Seleznev said.
The company sees carbon credits, which are generated through climate-related projects, as a rapidly developing field, a kind of "cryptocurrency," the senior executive said. To operate effectively in this emerging market, Norilsk Nickel will do its due diligence as to how pricing is determined for carbon credits.
