A record of transit shipments along the Northern Sea Route was set, reaching 3,080,000 tons
MOSCOW, November 13. /TASS/. Cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) will reach record 37.6 mln tons by the end of the year, Vladimir Panov, special representative of the Rosatom state corporation for the Arctic. Told reporters following a meeting of the State Council Commission on the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic region.
"As of today, 33.1 million tons [of cargo] have already been transported along the Northern Sea Route. Compared to the previous year, this is approximately a 5.3% increase. Now we are about to set another record for transportation along the Northern Sea Route - 37.6 million tons [of cargo] is expected," he said. In the meantime, the volume of transit transportation along the NSR exceeded 3 million tons.
"A record of transit shipments along the Northern Sea Route was set, reaching 3,080,000 tons. This is approximately 43% more than last year," Panov noted.
Panov noted that such figures were achieved due to the growth of shipments by PAO Novatek, as well as the redirection of cargo from the Suez Canal, which are shipped from the ports of St. Petersburg and Murmansk, to the Northern Sea Route.
"The redirection of this cargo flow in the summer-autumn period to the Northern Sea Route gave another increase of about 900,000 tons," he said.
The Northern Sea Route is the main sea line in the Russian Arctic. The length of this artery totals 5,600 km from the Kara Strait to the Providence Bay.
