Russia’s share in Indian fertilizer market growing to 28% — association
Andrey Guryev gave positive assessment to dynamics of supplies
NEW DELHI, November 12. /TASS/. Russia supplied 3.4 mln metric tons of fertilizers to India in January - October 2024 and increased its share in this market to 28%, head of the Russian Fertilizers Producers Association (RFPA) Andrey Guryev told reporters.
Russia sold record high 5.4 mln metric tons of fertilizers to India last year and captured a quarter of the country’s market, he noted.
"About 3.4 mln metric tons of all kinds of fertilizers have been supplied to date during nine months. For comparison, we supplied about 3.6 mln metric tons for the whole year in 2022 and it already was a record - three time more than in 2021," Guryev said. "As of the end of nine months of 2024, Russian producers increased the share in the Indian market to 28%," he added.
Guryev gave positive assessment to dynamics of supplies. "We are moving at very significant levels, occupying in total about 25% of mineral fertilizers imported there [in India]. As a matter of principle, we will continue ramping them [supplies] up, considering the interest," he noted.
"The absolute record was set last year - more than 5.4 mln metric tons of mineral fertilizers were delivered here [to India]. This is certainly related to a good price situation and high subsidies of the Indian government," Guryev said.
India is one of key consumers of fertilizers for Russian producers, he said. Russian companies scaled up supplies to India by six times over the last decade.
"With the understanding that companies have a large program at present to ramp up production of mineral fertilizers inside Russia, nitrogen, phosphate and potash ones, the Indian market was and remains very interesting for us and definitely among the key ones from the standpoint of increasing deliveries to this market. What supplies and with what volume - we will see on the basis of the price situation and direct needs of our Indian friends and counterparts. Nevertheless, there is the potential for the increase," Guryev added.
