Sofia has no information about Lukoil’s plans to sell its Bulgarian refinery — minister
Vladimir Malinov added that after receiving the requested information, the Energy Ministry will conduct an additional analysis of the state of the fuel market in the country and assess the possible risks from the sale of the enterprise
SOFIA, November 6. /TASS/. The Bulgarian authorities have no official information about plans of Russian oil major Lukoil to sell its Bulgarian oil refinery, Vladimir Malinov, Energy Minister of the country's technical government said at a briefing.
"The Energy Ministry has no official information about the sale of the Lukoil Neftokhim Burgas plant and its absence arouses concerns," the minister said.
Earlier, the Financial Times reported about alleged plans to sell the refinery to a Qatari-British consortium by the end of the year.
Malinov said that his ministry will send an official request to the company's owners and the operational management of the plant in connection with the information received.
He added that after receiving the requested information, the ministry will conduct an additional analysis of the state of the fuel market in the country and assess the possible risks from the sale of the enterprise.
"The final report will be presented to the deputies of the 51st People's Assembly, who must make the necessary decisions," he said.
The minister stressed that the Lukoil refinery is a strategic enterprise, and all issues regarding the change of its owner must be resolved in parliament, taking into account national interests and national security issues.
