Haikou Daily says the consumer sector should be one of the key drivers of development

HAIKOU /China/, 24 October. /TASS/. The administrative center of South China's Hainan Province, Haikou City, has stepped up measures to form diversified production chains by creating new incentives for intensive development, Haikou Daily reported.

According to the newspaper, the establishment of additional divers of growth will be possible by successfully combining the advantages of strategically important innovative industries that can effectively attract investment capital.

The four advanced development zones in Haikou (Jiangdong New District, Fullsing, State Hi-tech Development Zone and Comprehensive Free Trade Zone), as well as those under construction or completed, are contributing to the development of industry, tourism, hotels and many other sectors of the economy. The combined effect of this and the scale of the projects being implemented is expected to create new productive forces.

An important stimulus is expected to come from the consumer sector, including duty-free shops, cultural and entertainment activities and a wide range of tourism products. With Hainan's increasing openness and the proliferation of knowledge-intensive enterprises, particularly in Haikou, demand for consultancy and design services is expected to grow.

The aviation and logistics services industry in Jiangdong New District, a high-tech hub near Meilan International Airport, is a good example of a successful combination of industries. It is expected to help expand the list of cargo routes linking Haikou with other cities and countries in the foreseeable future. To this end, the authorities are pursuing a targeted policy to attract in-demand resources.

Haikou is a major economic cluster, accounting for about a third of Hainan's gross regional product. This city of 2.9 million people, which is also the province's main cultural, scientific and educational center, actively promotes international projects. The Chinese authorities are creating increasingly favorable conditions for multinational companies to set up headquarters and representative offices and are actively attracting foreign investment.
