Hainan is the first province in China to announce plans to completely stop the sale of gasoline and diesel cars on the island by 2030 in an effort to combat pollution and protect the local environment. To this end, the government is encouraging people to buy electric and hybrid cars and is developing the necessary infrastructure.

The province has a policy of subsidizing the purchase of such vehicles by individuals. The amount of the subsidy depends on the cost of the vehicle.
