HAIKOU /China/, July 13. /TASS/. Yangpu International Port on the west coast of Hainan Island has served more than 1 million containers in six months for the first time in its history, according to the management committee of the economic zone, which houses this transportation and logistics facility.

According to the page of the department in the social network WeChat, in January - June, this figure increased by 11.26% year on year. In addition, in the last three months, Yangpu has been among the top 20 ports in China in terms of container transportation.

Overall, in January-June, Yangpu's cargo turnover reached 30.8 million tons - 5.5% more than in the same period last year. The local administration forecasts that in 2024, the figure will reach 60 million tons and the number of containers will reach 2 million units.

The port has opened direct trade routes to Middle Eastern countries over the past six months, according to the operator of one of Yangpu's terminals. As a result, even more favorable transport and logistics conditions have been created for increasing supplies and for Hainan-made products to enter new overseas markets.

The Yangpu Economic Development Zone is a major player in the formation of a unified, highly efficient transportation network of the People's Republic of China. According to the Chinese government's plan, by 2035, the port located in the zone will become a key distribution point for the flow of cargo from different regions of the country to Southeast Asia and Oceania, Europe and North America. It is expected that it will soon become a logistics hub of regional importance, with up to 5 million containers passing through it annually.
