Avtotor plans to increase production of Amberauto electric cars to 3,000 in 2024

KALININGRAD, April 15. /TASS/. The Russian automobile holding Avtotor expects to produce up to 3,000 electric vehicles under its own Amberauto brand in 2024, Chairman of the board of directors of the company, Valery Gorbunov, told reporters.
"We produced the first batch of 200 [Amberauto A5] cars. This year we want to bring it to 3,000," he said.
The holding announced the release of an electric car of its own brand, Amberauto A5, in February 2024. In March, 50 electric vehicles under the Amberauto brand (A5 model) were delivered to one of the Kaliningrad taxi companies.
Earlier it was reported, the production of Amberauto A5 electric vehicles was launched in Kaliningrad as part of technological cooperation with one of Avtotor’s foreign partners. They are part of a product line that is included in the company’s general program for production localization. This is an electric sedan with a range of up to 520 km, equipped with a 160 hp electric motor at torque of 225 Nm. The capacity of the traction battery is 60.2 kWh.
At the initial stage of the model's launch, production is planned on the basis of a welded and painted body with partial localization of first-level components. Further, according to the localization plan, A5 cars will be equipped with electric motors, inverters, gearboxes, electronic systems, batteries and other components, the production of which will start in 2024-2025 at new plants created at the Avtotor production site in Kaliningrad.
The project to create the production of electric vehicles and auto components in the region is being implemented as part of a special investment contract between Avtotor, Russia’s Industry and Trade Ministry and the government of the Kaliningrad region. Under this contract, the company is implementing a cluster project in the region in the region consisting of 12 factories for the production of electric vehicles and automotive components. The project’s investments exceed 70 billion rubles ($757mln).
