Inflation in Russia accelerating over week — statistics
Inflation stood at 7.75% in annual terms as at April 8, 2024
MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Inflation in Russia accelerated from 0.1% a week earlier to 0.16% from April 2 to 8, 2024, the Russian federal statistical service (Rosstat) said.
Consumer prices in the country ticked up by 0.17% from early April and by 2.12% year to date.
Inflation stood at 7.75% in annual terms as at April 8, 2024.
In the food segment, prices gained 1.1% for mutton, 0.8% for sugar and canned fruits and vegetables for infants, 0.6% for canned meat for infants, 0.4% for sausages, frankfurters, butter, sterilized milk, sour cream, bread, cookies and vodka, 0.3% for beef, rice, pasta, black tea and edible salt, and 0.2% for frozen fish, pasteurized milk, cottage cheese, sunflower oil, wheat flour, vermicelli and canned vegetables for infants. Prices also ticked up for beet (5%), carrots (2.3%), tomatoes and apples (1%), and bananas (0.2%).
Prices at the same time declined by 2% for cucumbers, 0.3% for buckwheat, and 0.2% for onions, pork and chicken eggs.
In the essential goods segment, prices edged up by 0.6% for toothpaste, 0.4% for toothbrushes, and 0.3% for toilet soap. The price drop for laundry soap was 0.2%.
