Sitronics Group to install autonomous navigation equipment on Northern Sea Route vessels
In addition to the autonomous navigation system, the company will invest in other related systems on NSR, for example, in solutions to assess the ice situation for route planning
MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/. Sitronics Group plans to equip vessels with autonomous navigation technology to be used on the Northern Sea Route (NSR), the company's President Nikolay Pozhidaev told TASS.
"Our key direction is to use technologies (of autonomous navigation - TASS) inside the country. The Northern Sea Route is certainly a focus to us. We are very actively preparing for it," he said.
According to statistics, 96% of incidents on the water are due to human fault, he continued. The autonomous navigation system will be used to cut accidents in navigation. "The Northern Sea Route means a difficult navigation environment that requires a lot of decisions, and the processing of a lot of information. Right in this, the artificial intelligence system helps in the processing," he added.
In addition to the autonomous navigation system, the company will invest in other related systems on NSR, for example, in solutions to assess the ice situation for route planning. Under an agreement with Rosatom, the company has been working to create a number of services to ensure year-round navigation and safe sailing along NSR.
The Northern Sea Route
The Northern Sea Route is a shipping route in the Russian Arctic that runs along Russia's northern shores in seas of the Arctic Ocean (the Barents, Kara, Laptev, East Siberian, Chukchi and Bering Seas). It connects the Russian Federation's European and Far Eastern ports as well as the mouths of navigable Siberian rivers into a single transport system.
