Rosatom dispatches first batch of Co-60 sources to China
The supply was preceded by efforts of Russian and Chinese specialists on obtaining a relevant authorization for delivery of the important cargo
MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. Isotope, a Rosatom group company, has shipped the first batch of Cobalt-60 sources to China, the press service of the Russian state corporation said.
Isotope "implemented a pilot supply of sources based on Cobalt-60 isotope made by Mayak (a Rosatom’s company) to Chinese partners," the press service informed. The supply was preceded by efforts of Russian and Chinese specialists on obtaining a relevant authorization for delivery of the important cargo and coordinating the procedure of shipping containers’ return after unloading of sources.
The Co-60 is one of the most sought-after gamma irradiators, with the demand for it growing from year to year. Sources based on this isotope are used to sterilize food, medical tools and materials, decontamination and treatment of industrial waste, and for other purposes.
