Russian retailers, marketplaces top list for number of data theft reports — research

MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Russian online retailers and retail chains are in the top three in terms of reports on leaked data and infrastructure access on the dark market as of the end of 2023, information security provider Positive Technologies told TASS.
"Russian retailers and online commerce companies are the focus of hackers’ attention, ranking among the top three by volume of messages regarding stolen data and access to infrastructure on the dark market," the company said.
The key goal of cybercriminals is to obtain buyers’ personal details, with such data contained in 46% of confidential information leaks. Key techniques used to attack retailers include infection through malware (58%), exploiting vulnerabilities (42%), and various methods of social engineering (39%).
