Electricity exports to China down 75% in 2M 2024 — Inter RAO
Russia’s System Operator does not give a permit for supplies because of constraints in the Far East, driven by power consumption growth
SIRIUS /Federal Territory/, March 27. /TASS/. Inter RAO lowered electricity exports to China by 75% in January - February 2023, Executive Board member of the Russian energy company Alexandra Panina told reporters on the sidelines of the Atomexpo-2024 forum.
Inter RAO halted supplies over the 500 kV Amurskaya-Heihe power line because deliveries of minimum 75 MW are required to make this line active, the senior executive said. Russia’s System Operator does not give a permit for supplies because of constraints in the Far East, driven by power consumption growth, the low water level and the high failure rate of generating equipment.
"Based on that, we have the decline in respect of China by minus 75% in January - February against the last year because the largest line is out of operation," Panina said. Such limitation can continue to be in effect for a long time - "systemically, only commissioning of new generation facilities can provide the balance against such consumption growth," she noted.
