Russian LNG exports to Japan up 8%, coal sales down 31.7% in February 2024
Energy resources accounted for more than 73.5% of all Japanese imports from Russia
TOKYO, March 21. /TASS/. Russia’s exports of liquefied natural gas (LONG) to Japan grew by 8% in February compared to the same period last year, according to the Japanese Finance Ministry’s statistics.
Russian coal deliveries declined by 31.7% in the reported period.
Energy resources accounted for more than 73.5% of all Japanese imports from Russia.
The trade turnover between Russia and Japan declined by 16.5% in February, compared to the same period last year, reaching 104.1 billion yen (around $690 million at the current exchange rate), according to TASS calculations, based on the Japanese Finance Ministry’s statistical data.
Imports from Russia contracted by 10.2%, while exports to Russia declined by 33.6% compared to February 2023.
The decline in mutual trade was reported amid the reduction of Russian fuel deliveries to Japan and dwindling exports of Japanese products, primarily cars, to Russia.
