MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. The Russian Ministry of Agriculture will not cancel the grain export duty, but it is ready to adjust it based on current realities to reduce the financial burden on grain producers, Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev said on Wednesday.
"We have been discussing this topic for three years. We will not cancel the duty, but we are ready to adjust it based on current realities. We did this at the beginning of the last agricultural season, we will do it at the beginning of this agricultural season. I cannot give specific figures, to what extent we will adjust this duty, but we will try to reduce the financial burden on grain producers," the minister said.
From June 2, 2021, Russia introduced a grain damper mechanism, which includes floating duties on exports of wheat, corn, and barley, as well as the return of funds received from them to subsidize agricultural producers.
The Ministry of Agriculture determines the amount of duty for a period of one week based on the indicative price in accordance with the data on contracts concluded on the Moscow Exchange. Until July 1, 2022, duties were calculated in dollars, and then were converted into rubles.
