Rosatom discussing construction of small nuclear plants — CEO

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. The Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom is discussing construction of small-scale nuclear power plants, CEO Alexey Likhachev said.
"The demand [for small capacity nuclear plants] is very high and analysts say that up to 30-40 GW of small capacity nuclear power plants will be created on the planet in next 10-15 years," Likhachev said. Negotiations with a number of Russian companies on such projects are already underway, including Norilsk Nickel, Gazprom Neft and Lukoil, he noted.
"And with the whole range countries - with Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, and certain island countries of Southeast Asia," the chief executive added.
In December 2023, Rosatom and Mongolia’s Mon-Atom signed the memorandum on plans to build a small-capacity nuclear power plant in Mongolia.
