Yakutia's first region connected to fiber-optic line under Arctic Synergy project

YAKUTSK, February 19. /TASS/. The Zhigansk National Evenki District is the first district in Yakutia to where came a fiber-optic communication line under Arctic Synergy project Yakutia's Governor Aisen Nikolaev posted on Telegram.
The Arctic Synergy project is implemented as a co-financing from the federal and regional budgets. In 2022, the region signed an agreement with the Ministry of Digital Development, Communication and Mass Media on the project's joint implementation.
"Today is a historic day for the Zhigansk National Evenki District - a fiber-optic communication line has reached the villages of Zhigansk, Bestyakh and Bakhanai. The Zhigansk District has become the first location of the large-scale project Arctic Synergy," the governor wrote.
The Arktiktelecom Company, the project's operator, told TASS the line had been laid from the village of Kirovo to the neighboring Vilyuysky District into the village of Zhigansk. "The fiber-optic cable in the Zhigansk District serves 1,257 households, or almost 3,500 residents. We have laid 360 kilometers of optical cable," the company's press service said. "Now that the cable has reached the district, the local residents will be able to use digital services, and they will have new options for successful implementation of state projects and for small businesses." All the equipment in the project is manufactured by Russian companies.
The Zhigansk District is in Yakutia's north-west. It is part of the Russian Federation's Arctic Zone. Key directions in the agriculture sector are fishing and reindeer husbandry.
