The salmon catch in Chukotka was 21.4% of the target in 2023

ANADYR, January 10. /TASS/. Chukotka plans to develop fish breeding farms due to a general decline in bioresources, Governor of the Autonomous Region Vladislav Kuznetsov said at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

"Areas we are exploring are cultivating crops, which I have already mentioned, poultry farming and fish processing. The situation in this regard is rather challenging because the fish population is declining due to natural conditions. We are now moving to develop fish breeding and processing plants. This will make it possible to be self-sufficient and possibly sell outside [the region]," Kuznetsov said.

The salmon catch in Chukotka was 21.4% of the target in 2023. The fishing season was the worst in the last five years. This decline is associated with the excessive catch in prior years and also with weather conditions.
