Russian Railways passenger traffic rises by 5.4% to 1.2 bln people in 2023
Around 122 mln passengers used long-distance routes
MOSCOW, January 9. /TASS/. Passenger traffic on the Russian Railways network at the end of 2023 increased by 5.4% and amounted to 1.2 billion people, the company said in a statement.
"In 2023, over 1.196 bln passengers (+5.4% by 2022) travelled from Russian Railways train stations, including 1.074 bln (+4.6%) people using suburban routes, and around 122 mln (+12.7%) - long-distance routes," the company said.
According to the company’s operational data, in December 97.8 mln passengers (+3.6%) made trips, of which 88.5 mln (+2.7%) used suburban routes and 9.3 mln - long-distance routes (+ 12.8%).
Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network in 2023 increased by 11% compared to 2022 and amounted to 136.2 bln passenger-kilometers, including suburban routes - 33.1 bln passenger-kilometers (+5.3%), long-distance routes - 103.1 bln passenger-kilometers (+12.9%).
In December 2023, passenger turnover amounted to 9.9 bln passenger-kilometers (+11%), including suburban routes - 2.6 bln passenger-kilometers (+3.4%), long-distance routes - 7.3 bln passengers-kilometers (+14%), the report said.
