BRUSSELS, January 3. /TASS/. The European Union has blacklisted Alrosa and its CEO Pavel Marinychev as part of a ban on diamond imports from Russia, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrel said.

"In line with the diamond ban we have introduced with the 12th package of sanctions, the EU today lists Alrosa, the largest diamond-mining company in the world and its CEO," the diplomat said on X, formerly Twitter. "This is part of our coordinated efforts at G7 level."

The European Council announced that on January 3 it introduced "additional restrictive measures against one person and one entity."

"The new listings target the company PJSC Alrosa and its CEO Pavel Alekseevich Marinychev. PJSC Alrosa is the largest diamond-mining company in the world, owned by the Russian state and accounts for over 90% of all Russian diamond production," the council said in a statement.

A ban on the import of gem-quality diamonds from Russia to EU countries came into force on January 1, 2024 as part of the 12th package of EU sanctions. It does not apply to industrial diamonds and personal jewelry of persons crossing the border. The blacklist for Russia includes almost 1,950 individuals and legal entities whose assets are subject to freezing in the EU. The individuals are also banned from entering EU countries.
