South Korea will limit supplies of another 682 types of goods to Russia, including cars
As the reason for expanding restrictions the South Korean authorities name "high likelihood" that these items will be used for military purposes
SEOUL, December 26. /TASS/. The Government of the Republic of Korea will add 682 types of goods to the export control list for supplies to Russia and Belarus, according to the information published on the website of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The changes will come into force at the beginning of 2024 after administrative procedures. From then on, the export control list will increase to 1,159 types of goods. The new rules will apply to heavy construction equipment, rechargeable batteries, aeronautical components, and passenger cars with an engine displacement of more than 2,000 cubic centimeters.
Previously, cars worth more than $50,000 were subject to restrictions.
As the reason for expanding restrictions the South Korean authorities name "high likelihood" that these items will be used for military purposes.
"The general rule will be a ban on the export of items from the list. However, it is planned that individual permits will be issued after inspections in cases where a number of conditions are met, such as concluding a contract before the notification comes into force, supplies to subsidiaries," the ministry informed.
In April, the Republic of Korea expanded export controls from 57 to 798 items in trade with Russia and Belarus.
After the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, the Republic of Korea imposed sanctions against Russia. In response, Russia added the Republic of Korea to the list of unfriendly countries. Seoul provides humanitarian and financial assistance to Ukraine and supplies non-lethal military items, such as helmets, first aid kits, and mine detectors.
