Number of Komi business residents grows by 36% YOY

SYKTYVKAR, December 19. /TASS/. Another nine business residents joined the Russian Arctic Zone in the Komi Region in 2023, which is a 36% growth year-on-year. The region's 34 business residents announce projects worth 2.024 billion rubles ($22.5 million), Komi's My Business Center told TASS.

"This year, nine companies have received the status of the Russian Federation's Arctic Zone's business resident, thus presently 34 companies have obtained this status," the center told TASS. "They have announced projects with investments of 2.024 billion rubles, and they will create 852 jobs."

The companies will implement projects in mining, processing, transport, construction, tourism, medicine, agriculture, food processing and in the social sphere.

"The biggest project is a plant in Inta to produce calcium carbide and ferroalloys. The project is at the stage of equipment supply and installation, and the commissioning is due in 2024," My Business Center said. "It is for the first time that the residents have announced this year they will implement medical projects - a multidisciplinary medical clinic and a comprehensive recovery facility in Usinsk. Some projects are in IT - in industrial and fire safety."

As many as 72 companies in Komi have been registered as potential business residents. They plan projects worth more than 5 billion rubles ($56 million) and more than 1,000 jobs.

The Russian Federation's Arctic Zone in Komi includes 4 municipalities out of 20 - Vorkuta, Inta, Usinsk and the Ust-Tsilemsky District.
