Ukraine signs contract with US’ Westinghouse on equipment for Khmelnitsky NPP
The agreement provides for procurement of equipment for the reactor number 5, which will be built under the Westinghouse AP1000 technology
MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Energoatom, the operating company for Ukrainian nuclear power plants, signed an agreement with US’ Westinghouse on procurement of equipment for construction of a reactor for the Khmelnitsky NPP.
According to Ukrinform, the agreement was signed by Energoatom CEO Pyotr Kotin and Westinghouse CEO Patrick Fragmant in presence of Ukrainian Minister of Energy German Galuschenko in Kiev.
The agreement provides for procurement of equipment for the reactor number 5, which will be built under the Westinghouse AP1000 technology.
Overall, Ukraine plans to build 9 reactors under the AP1000 technology, with the first ones constructed at the Khmelnitsky NPP. According to the Minister of Energy, the construction of reactors number 5 and 6 are expected to begin shortly, but it is necessary to pass the corresponding legislation first.
