According to the report, 70% of commerce-related infrastructure is damaged or destroyed in Gaza

WASHINGTON, December 13. /TASS/. The economy in the Gaza Strip was operating at only 16% of its productive capacity amid the military actions in the Palestinian enclave in October, the World Bank said in a report.

The economy of Gaza has come to a "near-complete standstill" due to Israel’s operation, with about 85% of workers left without jobs since its beginning, according to the Bank.

"As of the second half of November, roughly 60% of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, 60% or more of health and education facilities, 70% of commerce-related infrastructure are damaged or destroyed in Gaza," the report said. Moreover, nearly half of all roads are damaged or destroyed as a result of the operation, according to the report.

Tensions in the Middle East flared up again on October 7 after militants from the radical Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, killing residents of border communities and taking people hostage. Israel announced a total blockade of Gaza and launched a military operation in Gaza, also carrying out strikes on certain areas in Lebanon and Syria in response to rocket attacks. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank. According to figures provided by the Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen TV channel, military actions in the Gaza Strip have left 18,500 people killed.
