Salekhard airport's upgrade to require $33 million less from regional budget
A new terminal is due to be commissioned in 2027
SALEKHARD, December 12. /TASS/. The offer that won the competition to upgrade the airport in the Yamalo-Nenets Region's administrative center, Salekhard, cuts investments from the region's budget by 3 billion rubles ($33 million). A new terminal is due to be commissioned in 2027, the region's Governor Dmitry Artukhov said.
"We have another example of a highly effective competition: we have cut co-investments in Novy Urengoy to zero, and we've received both a new terminal, the runway, the equipment, which passengers may not notice, but which costs a fortune. <…> Here [the Salekhard airport], the effect is also good - the offer, which has won, cuts the budget's co-financing by 3 billion rubles," he said.
Thus, the region will use the remaining funds for other priority tasks, he continued. The parties plan to conclude an agreement within a month, the airport design plan would require a year, and the construction - two plus years.
"In 2024 we will design [the airport], in 2025-2026 we will start the construction. I think, in 2027, guests and people living in Salekhard will take flights from the new terminal," the governor said.
The Salekhard Airport is located 7 km from the city. It began serving regular flights in 1935. The airport's new terminal building was put into operation in 2000, and the Yamal Airline uses the old building as its office. The airport has one terminal, one runway and a helipad. The airport serves flights between regions and municipalities.
