China commissions world's first 4th generation NPP
The nuclear power plant has operated continuously in a test mode for 168 hours and now it has been officially put into commercial operation
BEIJING, December 6. /TASS/. China has commissioned the world's first 4th generation nuclear power plant (NPP), the National Energy Administration has said.
According to the authority, the Shidaowan facility with a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) is located in the eastern province of Shandong. The nuclear power plant has operated continuously in a test mode for 168 hours and now it has been officially put into commercial operation.
"This shows that China has reached the world's advanced level in research, development and application of fourth-generation nuclear power technology," the statement on the NEA website reads.
According to the news release, the most significant advantage of the HTGR is safe power generation and its wide prospects.
