Complete exit of Baltic states from BRELL energy system to affect electricity prices
The Baltic countries are implementing the project of synchronizing their power grids with Europe via Poland, initially planned to be completed in 2025
MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. The complete exit from the united energy system of Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (BRELL) will influence the cost of electric power for Baltic states, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko said at the Primakov Readings forum.
"Three Baltic countries announced today the complete exit from the BRELL system that connected energy systems of Baltic nations with the Soviet system. Electricity prices are formed since then at the Swedish exchange and not by entering into beneficial long-term contracts and supplies of electric power from Russia," the diplomat said.
The Baltic countries are implementing the project of synchronizing their power grids with Europe via Poland, initially planned to be completed in 2025. When establishing the connection with Europe, they will simultaneously disconnect from the BRELL system.
The 9th Primakov Readings international forum is being held in Moscow on November 27-28. TASS is the event’s general information partner.
