Mechel reports coal, steel production decline in 9M 2023
Coal extraction dropped by 16% to 7.38 mln metric tons
MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. Mechel reduced steel casting by 2% year on year to 2.6 mln metric tons in January -September 2023, the Russian mining and metals company said.
Coal extraction dropped by 16% to 7.38 mln metric tons. Pig iron production contracted by 2% over nine months of this year to 2.37 mln metric tons.
At the same time, coal mining in the third quarter of this year gained 17% quarterly to 2.85 mln metric tons. Steel and pig iron production dropped respectively by 5% to 839,000 metric tons and 753,000 metric tons.
Cocking coal concentrate sales declined by 28% to 2.25 mln metric tons in January - September 2023, Mechel reports. Flat products sales lost 5% to 290,000 metric tons. Stampings sales gained 6% to 46,000 metric tons. At the same time, rolled section steel sales declined by 7% to 1.82 mln metric tons. Sales of forgings plunged by 13% to 26,000 metric tons.
