BUENOS AIRES, November 17. /TASS/. Latin American countries are showing high interest in non-energy use of nuclear technologies, primarily in medicine and agriculture, head of the regional center of the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom in Latin America told reporters.
"The interest is strong primarily as regards non-energy application of nuclear technologies. For example, in the nuclear medicine sphere and in the use of nuclear technologies for agriculture," Ivan Dybov said.
Colombia and Central American nations, including the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, are demonstrating interest in using nuclear technologies for medical purposes and for extension of the shelf life of agricultural products, Dybov noted. Rosatom is also discussing projects of nuclear technologies use for non-energy purposes in Brazil, he added.
High prospects also emerge to use nuclear technologies for the purpose of sterilizing medical products, Dybov said. "This is a very interesting business for many. Not merely state companies are dealing with it but the private business also experiences a demand for that," he added.
