Russia fines Spotify over $65,000 for repeatedly failing to localize data
The company was penalized for a similar offense in June 2023
MOSCOW, November 9. /TASS/. A Moscow court fined digital music service Spotify 6 mln rubles ($65,206) for repeatedly refusing to localize the data of Russians in the Russian Federation, the magistrate's court district No. 422 told TASS.
"The court found Spotify AB guilty under Part 9 of Article 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (repeated failure by the operator to ensure the recording, systematization, accumulation, storage of data of citizens of the Russian Federation when collecting personal data) and sentenced it to an administrative fine in the amount of 6 mln rubles," according to the court's decision.
This company was earlier penalized 500,000 rubles ($5,434) for a similar offense in June 2023.
At the end of May, Russia’s media watchdog (Roskomnadzor) ordered foreign services to localize data bases of Russian users in the Russian Federation by July 1. According to the department, around 600 foreign company representative offices in Russia have localized the storage of Russians' personal data to date.
