MOSCOW, November 3. /TASS/. The Arctic Council's working groups may resume work soon, the Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-At-Large and Chair of the Arctic Council's Senior Arctic Officials Nikolay Korchunov told TASS.
"The Norwegian chairmanship, with our support, has taken steps necessary for the functioning of the working groups," he said on sidelines of the international forum Public-Private Partnership in the Sphere of Sustainable Development of Indigenous Peoples. "We hope this will happen soon."
Earlier, the Russian diplomat said Norway aimed to resume the functioning of the working groups "this autumn already."
The Arctic Council is an intergovernmental organization of the Arctic States. Its members are Denmark (together with Greenland and the Faroe Islands), Iceland, Canada, Norway, Russia, the USA, Finland and Sweden. In 2021, the year of the organization's 25th anniversary, the two-year chairing role in it passed from Iceland to the Russian Federation. Over the two years of chairing the organization, Russia held about 90 events in 24 cities and towns across the country, including in its all nine Arctic regions.
